Home Security Systems

Many people feel that a home security system merely protects their house from intruders. They don’t realize that there are numerous types of sensors that can be installed to detect a variety of threats including flooding, fire, carbon monoxide, and intruders.

There are a variety of home security products on the market today. The numbers can be extremely confusing. Home security devices are typically wireless or hard wired. The most important components of any system are the control panel, the keypad, the access control sensors, and some sort of audible or visible alarm.

The control panel is one of the most important products available. It is the brain and heart of any home security system. The wiring or signals from all other products all feed into the control panel. This is basically a computer that processes the signals from all the components of a home security system and sends the appropriate response to the security company and the alarms. Without this piece of the puzzle, the entire system does not function correctly.

The keypad is another feature that is crucial to a system. This is where the homeowner interacts with the entire system. Before leaving the house, the keypad is where the homeowner engages the security system. It is also where the system is disengaged when the homeowner comes home. In addition, the keypad is responsible for telling the homeowner what is going on. If a door is ajar or a window open, the keypad should inform the homeowner.

Access control sensors monitor the home’s security. These sense when a door or window is open. When triggered, they send a message to the control panel that causes an alarm to go off. The alarm itself is the last crucial part of the entire system. It tells any intruder that he or she has been detected and that the house is aware of this.
