The Benefits of Double Paned Windows
With energy prices rising constantly, there is now a significant financial incentive to invest in as many money saving, energy saving items in a home as possible. Odd light bulbs, extensive insulation, and a number of other things all do much to reduce a family’s reliance on energy. Another, fairly common thing that does a huge job in preventing excessive energy use is a double paned window.
Double paned windows are made of two pieces of glass set into a frame that have a small space between the glass sheets. This space can be filled with regular oxygen or other nontoxic gasses, like argon. Filling the frames with gasses like argon increases the ability of the windows to insulate the home. Other options for the space between the panes include decorative frames and blinds.
Double paned windows insulate a home from the sun’s harmful rays, prevent heat or cold from making its way into the home, and trap conditioned air inside of the home in a way that is far superior to regular, single paned windows. The insulation provided by the double paned windows prevents the outside from interfering with the inside which reduces the amount of strain put on a furnace or air conditioner. In turn, the cost of running those items is reduced because they don’t work as much.
In addition to lowering a family’s heating and cooling bills, double paned windows also block outside noise from making its way into the house. For individuals who live near or on a busy street, this can be a huge benefit.
