Spanish Inspired Homes

It has become popular to refer to any home that we see with barrel tile roofing as a Spanish style home, but there is more to the traditional Spanish style home than just the prominent roofing that we see. In fact, there are several other aspects of this style that make it unique, as well as very popular in certain regions in the US.

Unique Features of the Spanish Style Home

The Spanish style home that we see in the US today is an adaptation of Spanish and Latin American architecture. This style is also referred to as the "Mediterranean style." With this style you will see very low-pitched roofs, rather than the tall and steep roofs that we might see common in many US neighborhoods. The roofs, as mentioned before, are typically built with red barrel tiles, creating an attractive and distinguishable feature. Below the roof, you will usually find stucco walls and prominent archways over doors and windows. The insides of these homes are built very wide open for easy movement and flow throughout the home.

Where are these Homes Found?

Spanish style homes in the US are found predominantly in warm, tropical climates such as Florida, California and Texas. The look and feel of these homes goes very well with the landscaping capabilities of these climates and creates a very pleasing overall appearance to the property.
