Save Energy in Your Home

In the summer, electricity bills are very high in Florida. Below we have provided some energy saving tips.

Around the Kitchen

Opt to cook food in the microwave as opposed to using the stove. The stove will require more than half the energy the microwave will. When you’re done with your meal, make sure to use your dishwasher. Surprisingly enough, a dishwasher uses less water than washing all those dishes by hand. Keep your fridge stocked with food, so less heat enters when the door is opened.

Thermostat

When you are home keep the thermostat a comfortable 78 degrees. However, when you leave, set it to 85. Ceiling fans use little energy and can allow you to feel a couple degrees cooler than where your thermostat is set. For each degree the thermostat is set at above 72 degrees, you can save 1-3% off your bill.

Appliances

Try not use appliances between 4 to 6 pm when electricity is used the most. It is better to dry a large load of clothes than 2 smaller ones. Additionally, conserve energy by turning off the dishwasher dry cycle and letting them air dry.

Unplug

If you aren’t using a device, don’t have it plugged in the wall. Electronic devices such as cell phone chargers and power strips drain energy when not in use.
