Deck Styles
Choosing a deck style for your new or existing home can be a very exciting experience. Decks are places for relaxation and pleasure, where you can grill, lay out in the sun, or just kick back and read. They must also be maintained, so choosing a deck style that fits your lifestyle is also important. It would be unwise to select a porch that requires a large amount of care and upkeep if you do not have the time to do so.
Wooden Decks
Wood is the most common material used for decks in the US. There are many different types with a wide variety of colors. Wood can also be stained a certain color if the owner so desires. Wood can be treated, as well, in order to better protect it from environmental factors such as weather conditions. On top of all that, wood is the most natural-looking deck material available.
Aluminum and Composite Decks
Composite decks are a recent development in the patio world. The material used in the construction of this type of porch is a recycled combination of hard plastic and wood. Typically, if buyers have the money up-front, these decks are a better investment than wooden ones because of the lower maintenance costs and hassle over the years.
Raised versus Platform Decks
Depending on the style of your home, a raised or multi-level deck might be more desirable than a plain platform deck. Typically, relatively level building sites are ideal for platform decks, which hug the ground. Conversely, raised decks or those with many levels are ideal when your home is on a sloped piece of ground, or if there is a drop-off where the porch is to be located.
